Superdome, news networks drop a touchdown pass

It should have been the story of the year for the NFL, as if they needed one. A community that has been ravaged by storms and political inadequacy for a year finally shines a glint of normalcy through the lens of the NFL. Finally the NFL has a story that deserves a media storm and exaggeration beyond the scope of just football. But what do we hear about? Emmitt Smith moves on to the next round in Dancing with the Stars.

The Superdome was an embodiment of all of the suffering and destruction that befell the region. Thousands of people gathered there after their homes were destroyed by hurricanes. A year passes by, and not only was a game held in the Superdome, but the New Orleans Saints dominated a game that they should have lost. Sure the NFL was smart enough to make it a Monday Night affair, and there was a good deal of coverage on ESPN and around the sports world, but this story had hollywood magnitude and the response was weak and understated by major news networks.
