Keeping Calm

At around 10:30pm today, I was passing by the table near our doorway and I realized that the tabletop looked somewhat empty.  This is where I trained myself to keep all of my important stuff.  So I started counting my belongings.  The Big 5…car keys, check.  Blackberry, check.  Cell phone, check.  ID badge for work, check.  Wallet…

…Wallet?

I have a bad habit of not seeing things that are right in front of me, so I stared for a little while.  “Look for black leather,” I told myself, but I just wasn’t seeing it.  When I finally came to the conclusion that the wallet was not right in front of me, I headed for my coat.  I checked the pockets one by one and the wallet wasn’t there either.  I ran my eyes over the kitchen counter, living room table, computer desk, sofa, even around the toilet to no avail.  My last hope was in and around my car, but there was no wallet there either.

I decided to make that shameful call of acceptance to the credit card company to admit my carelessness and put my credit card on hold.  I looked online and fortunately no one used the card.  I gave my credit card company a call to cancel the card and they said, “Our systems are currently being updated and we don’t have access to your credit card account.”

They told me to call back at 2am.  Wonderful.

As I sit here waiting for the clock to strike 2am, I decided to write this blog entry to calm my nerves.  There really isn’t much to do now but to wait till morning and make some phone calls.

Well if my sister wasn’t a kleptomaniac maybe my mom wouldn’t have suspected her first.
